Not Marianne Faithfull: The Anita Pallenberg* Edition *(and Suki Potier)
by Maggie at Faithfull Forever (Please do not remove the text as this is supposed to be an informative post and not just a collection of pretty vintage pictures. Thanks.)

For as long as I’ve had this blog I’ve regularly stumbled on photos that are clearly not Marianne, but are being mislabeled as such. A lot of the time it’s photos of Anita Pallenberg (sometimes it happens vice versa), so I want to dedicate the first edition of “Not Marianne Faithfull” to her.

Above are photos that I often find mislabeled as Marianne and I’ve added some hopefully helpful information about them.

1 + 2: Marianne Faithfull versus Anita Pallenberg. If you look closely Anita’s face is sharper and more defined. Marianne has a softer face and usually wore her hair down or only parts up (especially in the early sixties).

3: A still from “Performance” in which Anita starred alongside Mick Jagger. I can see how people could think it’s Mick and Marianne because it seems like a very  intimate photo but really it’s only a film still.

4: Another still from “Peformance” featuring only Anita. I think what makes people think this is Marianne is the cigarette and pouty lips.

5: This is a photo of Brian Jones and Suki Potier. Some people probably don’t even know Suki existed and just wonder why Anita looks so “different” on some photos. So, neither Marianne or Anita.

6: A still from “The Girl On A Motorcycle” featuring Marianne (obviously). I’ve often seen this photo labelled as Anita and I really don’t understand why, because she looks nothing like Anita in that photo.

masquerade-ball asked: do you know what performance that was with Marianne in the photo with Lenny Kaye from Patti Smith's band?

Yes, it’s from a tribute concert to The Rolling Stones at Carnegie Hall from earlier this year. Marianne played “As Tears Go By” and “Sister Morphine”.
